Fulton House on Pleasant Hill was built in 1845 by Michael Ruch, the first drydock (building and repairing of canal boats) owner in Canal Fulton. The house was built in the village of Fulton, later to become the city of Canal Fulton. This all brick structure, using Greek Revival architecture, sits upon a hill nicknamed "Pleasant Hill" by him. Local lore has it that he built the house on the hill facing the canal instead of the street so he could sit on the upper balcony to keep an eye on his business. In 1870, John Hammer, a local builder and prominent businessman, bought the home and added a library wing. The home had remained with the Hammer family descendants for over 120 years. It is now tastefully restored and redecorated to provide you with an experience you will long remember.
